Frequently Asked Questions

I am sorry I can't personally answer all your email.
Your questions are important to me and I hope this page will help answer them.
Due to the high volume of spam mail I receive, I have a very strong filtering system setup on incoming email.  When emailing me, put a specific subject in your email.  For example:  regarding graphics, question about background....or just leave the subject line blank.
If you simply put, Hi, or Hello or Information, these single words in the subject of the email  will cause the email to be deleted before I even see it, because many of the spam mail has the single words in their subject line.  I have setup a form you can use to send me messages also.

      1.

What program do you use and how do you make your graphics?
I use Paintshop Pro.  It can be downloaded from www.corel.com for a trial period. All of my flower graphics are either scanned into the computer from a photograph I have taken, a scan of the actual flower or a picture taken with a digital camera. Many of the flowers I grow in my backyard or greenhouse or I get from traveling and visiting botanical gardens.  A few were given to me by friends.
      2. Can I use some of your graphics to make awards to give out to others?
As long as you do not alter the graphics from its original form you may use my graphics.  This means you can't change the coloring or the content, you may only resize it.  And please drop me a line sending me the graphic so I can see what you have done.
      3. Is it okay to use your graphics since they are copyrighted.
By having a copyright on my graphics, this means they are my original creations, I retain rights to them. You may use them, if you show where they came from with a link from your website.  They are not to be placed in a graphic collection on the web or resold as part of a graphic collection. They are not to be redistributed or used without a proper link back.
      What is copyright?
      4. I don't have a website, so I can't link to your site, but I would like to use your graphics on letters and cards to friends?
You may use them for personal uses such as stationery and cards.
      5. I want to use some of your graphics on a school project.
You may use my graphics for any project that is non-profit.
      6. I would like a special header made for my website, would you make it for me?
I now offer my services as a business.  If I am currently taking orders and you would like to have special graphics made, check my Pricing Page for pricing information or Email me with your special request and a price quote.
      7. May I use your graphics in my emails?
You may use graphics from my website in your emails as long as you place a link at the bottom of the page showing  where the graphics were downloaded.  You will need to save the graphics you wish to use to your own computer for use and not direct link to the ones on my website.  If you don't know how to place a link, then just a text line like below will be fine.  Graphics by www.patswebgraphics.com
      8. I want to make graphics too, will you tell me how you do it?
Again time is a factor.  It takes a lot of time to learn to do graphics on the computer.  There are many tutorials on the internet that will teach you everything you need to know.  If you want to learn Paint Shop Pro, I would suggest this site to help get you started.  http://www.pspug.org/
      9. I do needlepoint and cross-stitch, can I use your graphics in my designs?
If you wish to use it personally or give it as a gift, then it's no problem. If you plan on selling it  then you need to purchase my CD to pay me for the use of the designs. How to Order CD
      10. How do I download the graphics to use?
Right click on the graphic and then click on "save as" or "save image as" and save it to your computer.  Save backgrounds by right clicking on the very edge of the page and "save background" to your own computer.
      11. I downloaded one of your graphics to use on a card to send my mother, but when I print it out it has a green background, I need it to be white. What can I do?
      A. My graphics are made for web page use only, that means a lot of them have been made with transparent backgrounds.  A lot of times a graphic, a snowman for instance, because he is white and maybe has some red and black and blue on him,  I will make the background color green so I can save it with the green as the transparent color.  If you wish to use them for something else and want the background changed you need to have a paint program. Take the graphic into your paint program and then fill in the background with your preferred color.
I tried printing one of your small flower gifs, but when I print it out on paper it doesn't look clear.
      B. When printing out small gif or jpg images from a software program, the images are not as clear because of the quality that is lost when saved in these formats.  Also it isn't possible to use a small image within a program and resize it bigger without distorting it.
      C.  Opening and altering graphics in a graphics program and resaving them will reduce their quality.  When a gif image is opened in a graphics program and resaved as a jpg it will distort and reduce the quality.  Images with large sections of solid colors are saved as gifs because when saved as a jpg the colors bleed together.  Images with solid colored backgrounds and bold solid colored print need to be saved as gif's to avoid this bleeding of color.
      12. I am having trouble with my web site. Can you please help me with my html?
Thank you, but I'm sorry I can't. I am not able to accommodate these requests.  I use Frontpage to create my pages and I do very little with the html coding, the program does most of the work for me.  There are hundreds of tutorials out on the internet to help you with html coding.
Here is a good one. HTML GOODIES

      13.

Do I need to ask permission before using your graphics?
If you are using my graphics on a personal web site that is not pornographic or doesn't contain adult related material then you can use my graphics without asking permission.  A link back must be placed on each page the graphics are used.

If you are a commercial web site wishing to use the graphics then payment is necessary for their use.  Check out the pricing guide for more information.  Pricing Page

      14. I put your graphics on my homepage and a friend said when she went to my page she couldn't see any of your graphics, can you tell me why?
If you are using AOL, which is a different browser than Netscape or Microsoft, please turn off 'graphics compression' under 'preferences' in your browser BEFORE viewing or downloading any graphics.  This URL will explain to AOL users the problem,  http://www.darklock.com/aol.html
If you are typing in your own html code, check that you are spelling the names of the graphics correctly and that you are using the right upper or lower case lettering.  Make sure you are using the same extension name the graphics were downloaded, gif or jpg.  All graphics used on web pages should be in jpg or gif format to accommodate all current browsers.
      15. How do I place a link to your web site from my page?
By placing this code in your  html source.
      <center><font size=-1>Graphics by</font>
      <br><font size=-1><a href="http://www.patswebgraphics.com">www.patswebgraphics.com</a></font></center>
It will look like this on your page.  Graphics by http://www.patswebgraphics.com/

If you wish to use a logo, use this code with this logo.Right click and save this image to your computer.  Add this html code to your page.  Then upload both the new page and the image to your server.
      <center><a href="http://www.patswebgraphics.com"><img SRC="PWGmni2.gif" ALT="patswebgraphics.com" BORDER=0 height=31 width=88></a></center>
      16. Can you tell me how to take care of my roses, I have no luck with them at all?
Even though it may look like I know a lot about flowers, I really don't. I raise a few common houseplants and some perennials, but overall really know very little about a wide range of flowers. I just like to admire their beauty and do graphics of them. I can't help with gardening tips.
      17. I want to start my own homepage and use your graphics, could you tell me how to do it?
How you build a homepage depends on what browser you use and what server hosts your site.  It isn't possible for me to give you basic information on how because so many of these page builders are different.
      18. I love all the different fonts you use for your text.  Why don't you make the fonts available for download from your site so I can make additional text buttons?
I do not own the copyright to most of the fonts I use and so can't offer them for downloading.  I will be happy to tell you the name of a font I used on any set if you will email me.
      19.
I have an adult website, can I use your graphics on it with the proper link back?
I'm sorry but I don't wish my graphics to be used on adult or sexually oriented websites.

      20.

I am a webmaster and build web sites for others, could you tell me the rules for using your graphics for this?
If building a website for a commercial site then the commercial site should purchase my CD for the right to use the graphics.  If building a personal website for an individual then a link back should be placed on the site to show where the graphics came from because the individual didn't purchase the graphics themselves.
      21. Can I use your borders and backgrounds in my email stationery?
Any borders and backgrounds on my website can be downloaded and used in your email stationery if you also place a text line at the bottom of your stationery to show where the graphics are from.  "Graphics by http://www.patswebgraphics.com"

      22.

If I purchase your CD, do I still have to place a link back to your site?
I don't require a link back to my site if my CD is purchased, but do ask a copyright notice be placed so people will know they aren't public domain graphics.  Just a small text line at the bottom of your page like this,  Graphics Copyright  Pat's Web Graphics© 1997-2007.

      23.

I have a commercial web site, if I purchase your CD, can I use the graphics on my commercial site?
Yes, purchase of my CD allows use of the graphics from the CD on commercial sites without further payment. A copyright notice should still be placed on the site to show the graphics are not public domain.

      24.

I make items for resell such as candy wrappers, mouse pads, stationery, can I use your graphics on them to resell?
Yes, to pay me for the use of my graphics for commercial use you should purchase my CD which allows you to use the designs without further cost.   How to Order CD
